No. 1 Reason Why You Shouldn't Care What Your Colleagues Think About HR

"HR is just make work". That's not a comment you would be happy to see on your annual engagement survey.

Moments like that can make you wonder if you're the only one, or if similar situations happen to other HR folks. I can assure you, negative opinions about Human Resources are pretty widespread. And while some criticisms about HR should be recognized, here's the reason why you shouldn't be too worried about what others think.

Great design is never noticed.

Think about the last time you used a great software. For example, macOS on your computer. I'm sure that your experience with it was nearly seamless. You didn't question your interactions. I'm guessing you also didn't celebrate when you successfully created a new folder, or copy&pasted a file. You also probably didn't open up your laptop to see the nuts and bolts inside. You just want to it to successfully do its tasks.

The reason why macOS is great is because its design is invisible. That should be a north star for any HR department. Don't look for a remedy that turns HR haters into lovers. That's a waste of time. Instead, look for ways to improve the company without being noticed by your colleagues. Remember, the the best HR is invisible.
